Do I need identification to open a library membership?
Yes, when registering, you will need to present a piece of identification showing your name and current address.
Examples of identification that we accept include a driving licence, or a recent utility bill received at your current address.
How do I open a membership?
You can sign up for a library membership at any one of our 5 main branches.
You must complete and sign a straightforward membership form and present your identification to a member of staff, who will provide you with your membership card on the same visit.
What does membership give me access to?
Your library membership will allow you to borrow materials such as books and audio books, and also give you access to our public computers with internet and WiFi.
Our branches also regularly run courses and events, which will be published on this website and advertised within our libraries.
Do I have to pay to become a member?
It is free to open up a library membership.
Can I only use services at the library at which I opened my membership?
Your library membership will allow you to use the services provided by all 5 Knowsley Library branches.
Charges for our services
Do I have to pay to take out items?
There is no charge for taking out books or audio books, but if they are returned late overdue charges will apply.

Do I have to pay to use the Library computers or WiFi?
It is free to use our computers and wireless network on your own WiFi-enabled device, but there is a charge for our printing service of 10 pence per A4 sheet. Printing is not available on our WiFi network.
How long can I keep borrowed items for?
Almost all of our borrowing items can be kept for 3 weeks. However, some items only have a two week loan period – these items will be clearly labelled. Also, new and popular books may have a reduced loan period if other customers are waiting for them, but our staff will notify you of this.
How many items can I have out at a time?
You are allowed to have up to 10 items at a time.
How often can I renew my items?
You are allowed to renew your books twice. After this, the book may be renewed again, but must be brought into one of our branches in order for staff to renew it.
Can I place a reservation for a book that is not available when I visit?
If an item you are looking for has not yet been released you may request that we add it to stock. If it is out on loan to another customer, you can ask our staff to place a hold on it for you. There is a small charge for this service – please refer to our charges summary for details.
