Childrens Summer Holiday Activities Image

Looking for ways of keeping the kids occupied during the school holidays, but don’t want to break the bank (again)? There are always a number of fun, free activities going on in your local library during half term and summer holidays. For details, check our Facebook page, or just pick up a leaflet at your library as holiday times approach. If you want to be sure to be kept informed, email us at yourlibrary@knowsley.gov.uk and ask to be added to our mailing list for family activities.

Words & Pictures for under 5s

Words and pictures session

An informal introduction to the library for under 5’s and their carers, weekly Words & Pictures sessions last about an hour and consist of a story for the very little ones, (maybe even some nursery rhymes or a song if you’re really lucky!) and a simple craft or some time to play with the toys in the children’s area. Only during term times.

Annual Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge is designed to keep your children reading during the long summer holidays. It takes place every year during the summer holidays. You can sign up at your local library and read six library books of your choice to complete the Challenge. There are exclusive rewards to collect along the way, and it’s FREE to take part! The 2019 SRC is now finished. Come back next year to find out about the theme for 2020. In the meantime, you may wish to visit the Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge pages here https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/

After Hours

Every Knowsley library has an after school club. After school clubs are very popular with children as a way of exploring creative activities and crafts. And there is he added bonus of being able to borrow books during their visit. Bring the kids along to make something special to take home. Mums, dads and carers are always welcome.

Lego & STEM Club (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths)

Our weekly Lego & STEM sessions consist of 75 minutes of activity on a STEM theme. This can be anything from constructing a bridge, making a structure from recycled plastics, to creating a working circuit board. Alternatively, get back to traditional and educational fun with Lego. Let their imagination run riot, and build anything they like with our thousands of Lego bricks, tiles and add-ons. Both suitable for ages 7+

Craft Saturdays

Saturday morning craft session for children with a variety of themes. We may have a project that we work on each week for something made to be displayed in the library, so there is not always a craft to take home. Designed to also encourage reading, the sessions may be linked to a particular book for the duration of the craft project. Suitable for all ages. Parents and carers always welcome.
